The 19th China Baseball League Kicks Off Regular Season Finals in Pingtan

Two matches kicked off simultaneously on the opening morning. The curtain-raiser saw the home team Fujian Sea Sharks take on the traditional powerhouse Guangdong Cheetahs. Falling behind by 0-2 in the first three innings, the Fujian side staged a stunning comeback with solid teamwork. They scored three points in the third inning to turn the tide and exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, sealing an impressive 8-2 victory and claiming a triumphant opening win.

Meanwhile on Field No.2, Jiangsu Giant Horses edged past Shandong Blue Whales with a score of 8-6.

He Changzheng, assistant coach of the Fujian Sea Sharks, expressed satisfaction with his team’s opening performance after the match. “The players fully met our pre-match expectations with aggressive batting and excellent teamwork. Everyone showed great passion on the field,” he noted, adding that the team aims to secure a top-three finish in the upcoming finals.

As China’s top-tier official baseball tournament, the 2026 China Baseball League features three regional stops in Chengdu, Tianjin and Pingtan, followed by the grand finals. The Pingtan leg will run until May 28, and the season’s ultimate championship finals will be hosted in Pingtan from May 30 to June 1.

Pingtan has earned wide recognition for its outstanding capacity to host high-level baseball events in recent years. Ren Zhiyun, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Fujian Baseball and Softball Association, explained that Pingtan was selected to host the crucial final regular-season stop and national finals thanks to its proven successful hosting track record. The Pingtan Baseball Park previously flawlessly hosted the 2025 National Baseball Championship and the 2025 Asian Baseball Championship, delivering well-organized and high-standard events.

“Thanks to our reliable event execution, we have gained full trust and support from the Chinese Baseball Association. We will continue to deliver a wonderful, high-quality tournament under the guidance of the Chinese Baseball Association and Fujian Provincial Bureau of Sports,” Ren Zhiyun stated.
