Ice Hockey Connects Cross-Strait Youth at 4th “Dream Chaser Cup” in Wuhan

The opening ceremony featured speeches from organizers and Taiwan team representatives, highlighting the value of sports exchanges among young people. Guests and player representatives from both sides jointly performed the ceremonial opening puck drop to start the competition.

Participating teams include sides from Taiwan, Taiyuan, Qiqihar, and Wuhan’s local squad. Hosted at a professional international-standard ice rink, the tournament offers high-level competition conditions. Since opening in 2024, the venue has hosted various major youth ice sports events.

Fierce yet friendly matches took place throughout the opening day, with dynamic on-ice competition and enthusiastic audience support creating a vibrant sporting atmosphere.

Beyond competition, the event includes a cultural and city tour for Taiwanese young athletes. The itinerary covers iconic Wuhan landmarks such as the Yellow Crane Tower, the 1911 Revolution Museum, Lihuangpi Road, and Hubei Provincial Museum. The group will also experience the Optics Valley Sky Train, enjoy a Yangtze River night cruise, and participate in further sports and entrepreneurship exchange activities.

Launched in 2023, the annual “Dream Chaser Cup” has grown into a comprehensive cross-strait brand integrating sports competitions, cultural visits, and youth entrepreneurship exchanges. It embodies the deepening communication and integration between young people across the Strait.

Supported by professional cross-strait exchange organizations, the event is rooted in Dongxihu District’s 30 years of cross-strait cooperation. The district hosts a national-level entrepreneurship base for Taiwan youth, with more than 120 Taiwanese startup projects settled in sectors including smart sports, cultural creativity, and education.

Huang Weihong, Wuhan-based Taiwanese founder of the event, noted that the tournament uses ice hockey as a bridge to help Taiwan youth better understand the mainland, deepen cross-strait friendship, and pursue shared dreams together.
