Cape League All-Star Festivities: Christman Wins Rainy Home Run Derby, All-Star Game Canceled Due to Weather

The day’s events opened with the highly anticipated Home Run Derby, featuring six standout sluggers from across the league: Jacob Lee, Bub Terrell, Junior Laukai, Coen Niclai, Brady Christman, and Ben Slanker. The competition quickly turned into a head-to-head battle between Orleans Firebirds’ Bub Terrell and Cotuit Kettleers’ Brady Christman, with both players consistently crushing home runs throughout the rounds.

Despite steady rainfall falling over the field during the derby, the two finalists maintained powerful hitting performances. Terrell delivered several impressive long balls, including a shot that struck the center-field light pole. However, Brady Christman’s dominant hitting overwhelmed Terrell’s strong effort, earning the Cotuit star the Home Run Derby championship title.

Following the derby victory, the scheduled Cape League All-Star Game proceeded briefly before worsening weather disrupted play. West Division pitcher Brady St. Pierre tossed a clean opening inning, while East starter Angel Cervantes took the mound with his signature lucky two-inch purple dinosaur totem “Jerry,” a companion present for every one of his starts. A UCLA freshman with a solid spring 4.17 ERA across 19 outings, Cervantes shared excitement about joining five Chatham Anglers teammates for the All-Star event and named 2026 MLB first overall pick Roch Cholowsky as his ideal defensive partner.

With persistent rain soaking the field and approaching thunder creating unsafe playing conditions, umpires officially canceled the All-Star Game in the top of the third inning with just one out recorded.

Though inclement weather shortened the All-Star Game, the day’s Home Run Derby and pre-game celebrations successfully highlighted the Cape Cod Baseball League’s outstanding young talent and status as a top pipeline for future professional baseball players.
