Hurricanes Roll Past Canadiens for Fourth Straight Playoff Win

Jackson Blake and Seth Jarvis each recorded one goal and one assist, while goaltender Frederik Andersen made 23 saves. Blake, in his second NHL season, expressed excitement over the team's run while noting the Hurricanes still have one more series to play.

Carolina took control early. Taylor Hall opened the scoring at 9:17 of the first period, burying a rebound after Logan Stankoven's attempt was stopped. Montreal's goaltender interference challenge was unsuccessful. Stankoven doubled the lead minutes later with his team-leading ninth playoff goal, set up by Hall. Eric Robinson stretched the advantage to   3-0 before the first intermission with a smooth backhand breakaway finish.

The Hurricanes extended their lead to 4-0 in the second period when Blake scored another rebound goal. Hall posted elite playoff numbers with 16 points in 13 games and leads the league with 14 even-strength points this postseason. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour praised Hall’s reliable two-way contribution since joining the roster. Shayne Gostisbehere added a power-play goal late in the second frame to make it 5-0.

Montreal fought back in the third period, as Cole Caufield cut the deficit to 5-1 on a power play. Jarvis closed out the rout with an empty-net goal, sealing the 6-1 final.

Canadiens players and coaches acknowledged the lopsided defeat but remained optimistic about the team's development. Captain Nick Suzuki credited his teammates'effort through three tough playoff rounds, while head coach Martin St. Louis stressed growth through postseason adversity. Defenseman Lane Hutson admitted mental toughness remains a key area for improvement.

In historical fashion, Andersen became only the third NHL goaltender ever to win 12 of his first 13 playoff games in a single campaign. Across the five-game series, Carolina outshot Montreal 167-89 and scored first in every contest. Stankoven has also tallied 16 goals in his past 21 games dating back to the regular season.
